What Makes the Sansui 790 Worth Owning?
The Sansui 790 hits a rare balance: it’s powerful, but not oversized — refined, but not fragile.
Unlike many receivers in its class, it offers true dual phono inputs, independent left/right tone control, and a fully analog path that delivers impressive separation and depth — especially at low to moderate volume.
It’s not just what it can do — it’s how consistent, musical, and clean it sounds across genres.
From jazz to vinyl rock to FM radio, it just works — with zero harshness, and that signature Sansui midrange magic that listeners chase.
🌟 Part of the Golden Age of Hi-Fi
The late 1970s were a time of unmatched craftsmanship in hi-fi — and the Sansui 790 is a proud product of that era.
Its build quality, analog purity, and circuit design remind us why this gear is still so sought-after today.
Restored, refined, and ready, the Sansui 790 offers true vintage performance for serious listeners — without the weight (or price tag) of its famous siblings.
🎯 If you want real Sansui tone with daily drivability, this is the one.
Condition:
This receiver is in “Excellent” condition, displaying minor signs of use with a bright, clear dial. All knobs, feet, and the attached AM antenna and AC cord are present and intact. Although the manual is missing, it can be found online or we can provide a PDF upon request. Please inspect all photos thoroughly for the actual condition.
Service:
Upon inspection, the unit had scratchy controls, a dim dial, and some distortion in one channel. Therefore, it underwent servicing by our technician. Pioneer used certain transistors in this model that are known to fail after 40 years, so all of these were replaced. This upgrade resolved the distortion issue. Additionally, several questionable capacitors were replaced.
Testing:
After servicing, the receiver was tested on our bench and performed excellently, delivering a powerful, warm, distortion-free signal characteristic of analog receivers. All inputs, outputs, and features were confirmed operational, and the tuner spins smoothly. Additional testing was conducted, and we can provide specific feature information upon request. This is a remarkable find for the vintage audiophile.
