Released in the early 1970s as Sansui’s near-flagship, it delivers 75W per channel of clean, detailed, and natural power.
This amp features independent preamp and power amp stages, true dual-mono construction, and ultra-flexible tone control — making it one of the most refined, serviceable, and musical vintage amps ever produced under $2,000 today.
With its low profile, brushed aluminum front, and matte black switches, the AU-8500 looks serious — because it is.

🌟 What Makes the AU-8500 Special?
The AU-8500 is often overshadowed by the AU-9500 or 999 — but don’t let that fool you.
This amp has genuine weight and speed, a tight, textured low end, and a natural tonal balance that makes even neutral speakers come alive.
Its tone controls aren’t just add-ons — they’re tools, giving you pinpoint adjustment without color.
And unlike many amps from this era, the AU-8500 is easy to recap, service, and keep running for decades. It’s a true engineer’s amplifier — and a listener’s dream.

Condition:
This receiver is in “Excellent” condition, displaying minor signs of use with a bright, clear dial. All knobs, feet, and the attached AM antenna and AC cord are present and intact. Although the manual is missing, it can be found online or we can provide a PDF upon request. Please inspect all photos thoroughly for the actual condition.
Service:
Upon inspection, the unit had scratchy controls, a dim dial, and some distortion in one channel. Therefore, it underwent servicing by our technician. Pioneer used certain transistors in this model that are known to fail after 40 years, so all of these were replaced. This upgrade resolved the distortion issue. Additionally, several questionable capacitors were replaced.
Testing:
After servicing, the receiver was tested on our bench and performed excellently, delivering a powerful, warm, distortion-free signal characteristic of analog receivers. All inputs, outputs, and features were confirmed operational, and the tuner spins smoothly. Additional testing was conducted, and we can provide specific feature information upon request. This is a remarkable find for the vintage audiophile.
Condition Disclosure:
This item exhibits minor wear consistent with light use, as shown in the provided photos. The listing includes exactly what is pictured; no accessories, test equipment, or media are included.
